So we moved today...

It did not go...QUITE as expected.

Long story short, we left about 4 hours later than we wanted and drove 45 minutes, making it into the next town right before the moving van died and left all our earthly possessions stranded on the side of the road.

So now we're stuck in Lewiston, Idaho for tonight and tomorrow morning. And I'm super tired.

See you Saturday!

What's the worst thing that's ever happened to you during a move?

  1. Oh noes! *hugs Miriam ... then hugs her again as her comments seem to be functioning at last*

I've moved a lot, but all of ours have gone relatively smoothly - apart from that time half our kitchen utensils ended up in Sri Lanka. We had just moved to Germany. But, as we got it all back very promptly, we were fine. We've lost and damaged few things in moves during the years, but never anything hugely traumatic.

Hope the next part of the move goes better for you. Also, those GIFs nearly made my pancreas explode with giggles. I hope you're happy xD

  2. That rabbit pic is so cute.... weirdly, I think I saw the video it came from a couple of days ago!

I've never moved house. Okay, that's not quite true - we moved when I was about a week from my first birthday. I don't remember it. So, I've lived in this house for as long as I can remember, which means if/when I move, it's going to be very traumatic :( But hopefully that won't be for a long time.

Hope you get everything sorted out soon!

  3. So sorry. I can't believe you're blogging through all this. Hope it goes smoother today.

  4. I told you NOT to pack Murphy! But no, you have to ignore your dad -- see what happens when you don't pay attention to your father.

As for moving stories, your mom twisted her ankle, tore a tendon and ended up in a cast. Oh, and we were unloading the piano, two of us in the truck and I was at the bottom of the ramp, on the way down they lost their grip and I got to "catch" it.

  5. Ugh!  I hate moving, though I can't say anything catastrophic has ever happened.  I just always seem to have these great organized plans that degenerate into throwing random things into boxes at the last second.  And I have WAY too much stuff, and married a pack rat who also has WAY too much stuff.

I hope you're on your way again soon, and can get settled in your new home without further troubles.

  6. Worst moving experience would be when we left WA for the last time in 2007.  We had a lot of financial problems while my MIL and SIL had a lot of marital problems in their own respective marriages.  The lot of us decided to head to TX, since MIL had family there and my SIL found a job through her mom's cousin.  (It got a little confusing in all the discussions but SIL had a job and MIL and SIL had a place to go...we didn't, at first.)  So MIL and SIL packed up their households into a UHaul and decided since we had the minivan we could haul it.  We either sold, gave away, or trashed most of what we owned so our stuff could fit into the minivan.  We left at 10 pm and had to stop by 1 am because my husband, who was driving the minivan (I had a bum wrist at the time and couldn't drive) had already been up for 36 hours.  We left again at 9 am, only to lose my MIL and SIL (they had the map & knew where we were going) outside of Tacoma in that mess that is freeway.  We stopped at the next rest area expecting them to be there but they weren't.  We slept for a few hours and headed out again.  We ended up getting stuck outside Ellensburg with a flat.  Thank God for my aunt.  She and my uncle showed up and helped us fix our tire, fed us, and got us back on the road again.  By that time MIL and SIL finally realized we weren't behind them and called us on my cell phone...after ignoring all of our calls all through the day.  They made it to Boise around 10 pm that night.  We almost didn't make it over Dead Man's Pass because of the UHaul dragging us towards the edge of the cliff because of winds.  We finally got into Boise around 6 am.  We stopped at my parents' house and at 8 am my SIL came into the room where we were sleeping and kicked my husband in the butt and told him to get up because we were leaving.  They left half an hour later, pissed off and upset.  We stayed in Boise, where we've been ever since.

  8. Thanks! And I LOVED that video!

My husband had never moved before we got married, and his mom came over one day right after I finished unpacking and delivered ALL of his old stuff in one big pile. 0_o

Three moves later, we've managed to cut down the Things-Dan-Still-Needs-To-Sort pile to a couple of small boxes. It's a process.  :)

  9. "great organized plans that degenerate into throwing random things into boxes at the last second"
That was EXACTLY what happened to us. No matter how well I plan, it always turns into a frantic packing/cleaning scramble that takes four times as long as you think it should.

    Sigh...

  10. Oooh mygosh. *hands Annikka Worst Move Ever Trophy*

    I wouldn't move with them either!  Besides, Boise's a nice place. :)

  11. The last time we moved, I've forgotten to make sandwiches and coffee for the movers...they were all so starving! I felt so bad.  It's not easy moving with all the packing and the quirks of the actual move. I still had boxes around the house, 12 months after the move! Arrrggh.

  12. I grew up here.  We moved here when I was 7.  I moved away at 21, came back, moved away again in my late 20's, and now we're here for the long haul it looks like.  Can't ever get away from it, it seems, and it's really not a bad place to live.

  13. Oh, poor movers! I've done similar things, just not with moving.

And I'm not even THINKING about what's going to happen when we start unpacking. *sticks fingers in ears* LALALALALA.

  14. Yeesh. That's awkward, especially when you haven't packed your things in storage ready containers. :(

  15. Welcome Tasha! I'm so glad you found me!

I felt like it was that way with this move, kind of an anything-that-can-go-wrong-does thing. But we're safely with the in-laws right now. Next comes apartment hunting. :-P

  16. Since we just moved back ourselves, I can't disagree with you. :)

Where in Boise do you live?

  17. When my hubby and I moved back to Utah from Washington state, everything that could have taken longer, been trickier, etc., did.  I hope you get settled soon.  I just found your blog - new follower :)

  18. Oh, no. I was supposed to move into a condo on a day they had scheduled the painters to come in. Ach. Everything went into the garage for a few days. No fun.

  19. I DIDN'T pack Murphy! He snuck into the truck while we were loading it. *scowl*

Lol, I remember you telling me the piano story. :)
