Every post this week will be a chance to win a book. I'm doing this for two reasons.
1.) I am slammed this week, writing-wise. 5k more words to write, four chapters to shine up and send to my editor and copyedits coming today or tomorrow.
2.) All of my various vacation stops last week left me with these...
And I want to share.
First up is Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers.
Seventeen-year-old Ismae escapes from the brutality of an arranged marriage into the sanctuary of the convent of St. Mortain, where the sisters still serve the gods of old. Here she learns that the god of Death Himself has blessed her with dangerous gifts—and a violent destiny. If she chooses to stay at the convent, she will be trained as an assassin and serve as a handmaiden to Death. To claim her new life, she must destroy the lives of others.
Ismae's most important assignment takes her straight into the high court of Brittany—where she finds herself woefully under prepared—not only for the deadly games of intrigue and treason, but for the impossible choices she must make. For how can she deliver Death’s vengeance upon a target who, against her will, has stolen her heart?
As some of you know, I adore books with assassins and deadly heroines. And I have been suffering from serious ARC envy for the past few months as my online friends got ahold of this book. So when I walked into the bookstore in Boise and saw a display, I pounced.
Like actually pounced.

I read it on the way back home and it more than lives up to the buzz. Grave Mercy is a complex, wonderfully written adventure that made me both want to write and believe I could. Which is pretty much the best thing I can say about any book.
