Monday Question: What do YOU want to know about voice?

Some of you may remember that I was planning to do a series on writer's voice in November.

Yeah, that totally didn't happen.

But I do still really want to talk about it. So I'm opening up the floor with a question for you. (Yes you. You lurking over there. I see you. Come on out.)

What do you know about voice? What would you like to know?

  1. Hmm.... I will give it some thought.

  2. Voice... oh, gosh, voice is what gave me grief for forever. Let's see.... I could say something really stupid like, "Is my current writing voice okay?" But I'm not in a mood to be stupid.... XD

I guess.... how do you find it?
I think I either have it more complicated than it really is, or else I DON'T realize how complicated it is..... I have a hard time writing sometimes, because I try and use certain "voices" and I can't pull them off, but I don't know if the one I have is "okay" for whatever genre/story I'm writing.

I don't know if that made sense. Sheesh.

If I think of any coherent questions, rest assured, I will be back :)

    PS Love the kitty.

PPS I seriously love your blog. I only found it recently, but I absolutely love it <3

  3. Please help with voice. How do you nail it down and make all your characters sound different. I have to do a last revision of my manuscript focusing on this. Any help would be appreciated.

  4. Misha- Please do! I'd love to know your thoughts.

    Michael- So do I. :)

  5. Director- Why thank you sir! *bows* I thought you had some good questions, but if you think of any more I'd love to hear them.

Natalie- I'll do my best. :)

  6. *bows back* Haha, glad to hear I made a little sense XD

I am back, though. One more question:

When it comes to character's voices, are there any "tricks" to make them each sound different, but subtly? 'Cause sometimes you can't just give each of them an entirely different diction... yikes... :P

Yup, I think that's it. Can't wait for the post!

    *bows again and exits*

  7. THAT is a great question. I'll have to ponder that one.
